About Me

Hi!  My name is Karen.  I asked my mother once why she decided to name me Karen and she said that she couldn't decide between the names Sharon or Debbie.  That pretty well explains everything, doesn't it?  It certainly tells you a lot about my mother.

I attended public schools and eventually became a high school mathematics teacher.  I taught for 32 years before I retired.  Since retiring, I've tried to keep up on educational issues and in 2009 decided to try my hand at blogging.  I had seen the movie "Julie and Julia."  The movie was good, but it was the blogging idea that fascinated me.  I thought, "I can do that!"  And so I did.

My interests include books, movies, television, music, education, astronomy and other sciences.  I edit two newsletters each month, one for a teachers' society and the other for a local astronomy club.

I love animals and currently have two cats.  Both were strays.  One is a real sweetheart who wants to be held all the time.  The other is a feral, gray tortoiseshell.  She is not a sweetheart.  She can be cute when she wants something, but you never know when she'll turn on you.  I have the scars to prove it.

I am married and have been for many years.  We never fight, but we often agree to disagree.

I am moderately liberal, but try to respect everyone's point of view as long as it's intelligent and well-thought out. I feel the same way about religion.  I was raised Christian, but respect all religions and love to study their beliefs and practices.  Respecting and studying other people's politics, religion, and points of view does not mean I agree with them.

There is a lot more about me that I could include and maybe, in time, I will.  But for right now, I think I'll end it here.
